The Last Green Day

The straining rays of the sun nourish
The last of the verdant leaves
For today Flora unfurls to flourish
And my joyous heart begins to grieve
I feel in my soul a dying glow
The emerald gleam beginning to fade
I long for the days when I did know
The comforting cool of a forest shade
The winter is a time of purity
The cleansing of a sleepy world
But I miss the imperfections of viridity
I miss the blooms of life unfurled
This is the last day of deep green
I stretch my olive limbs to the sky
For long this richness won’t be seen
The long days now seem to fly
